filtration

I have a 125 gal tank that has been setup for nearly 2 months.i am using a aqua clear aquatics wet/dry 200 gal system for the filtration.I have a cap2200 return pump back into the tank, and a cap 1800 pump worknig the built in protien skimmer. My first qusetion is this enough filtration for my set up?I have 2 penguin 170 bio wheels on my old than that im not using anymore,(should i add these to my new tank?)The other question is about the overflow box for the wet/dry filter, its covered in a brownish alge(slime)are you supposed to take this off and clean it or just clean the slots so water can can flow sufficently? Thanks for your input.
P.S. FOWLR (MY TANK)

Coral Beauty,
I too have used the equipment made by Aqua Clear Aquatics and have had no problems with it. I typically leave everything in my overflow and let it work out naturally. As far as filtration it would depend on how much live rock you also have in the tank. Live Rock is another good form of filtration as long as you have good current (powerheads). My suggestion based on what you already have (wet/dry and skimmer) would be to possibly add more live rock and create some more current if you dont have any power heads. In the 125 I would probably add maybe 2 802's or 2 402's if you use the hagen brands. I have used the CAP pumps as well, but I dont like them as powerheads, only return pumps like you have in your wet/dry.

The slots in your overflow MUST be kept clear of debris. If the water flow here becomes restricted,or blocked even partially,it can cause your sump(wet/dry) to run dry and cause a flood. This can also burn up the return pump...

i dont have alot of live rock yet probably 40 lbs,its the rock i moved from my other tank.Do you suggest using the penguins with this new set up? or is there such a thing as too much filtration??

I think we need to know what you are plaining to put into your tank? If it is going to be a nice community tank then I would say you have enough filtration, if you are going to have aggresive fish they tend to make a mess when they eat the you might want to add a mech filter. I would keep the over flow box clean, that is what brings the water into you w/d and you don't need anything blocking the flow. Good Luck
