Fin Rot I think & hair Algae

I am hoping someone can help me with a couple of things. I'm new to this hobby, just started with a 50 galloon aquarium in October, and it has been one battle after another. I can't seem to keep my tank happy. I am having such a problem with hair algae and green algae lately I don't know what to do anymore. We do water changes almost every week, I am constantly scrubbing rocks, but it keeps coming back. Our levels are pretty stable, Nitrate is a bit high, but I am trying to control it with a NItrate controller (in the filter) and we do fairly frequent water changes. Anyone know why this is happening and how can I get rid of it? Also, my coral beauty is showing signs of tail rot and I actually noticed that he has a chunk of "meat" missing from his belly. Anyone have any ideas? Any advice would be appreciated, I would like to enjoy my aquarium. I can hardly stand to look at it anymore, I always seem to find something wrong with it... Thanks, Relli

check your levels, I had an algae prolem and I had high levels of PO4 and it didn't help that my lights were on for to long either. HOw long are your lighs on for?
As for teh fin rot never had a problem with it but try taking the fish out, and putting it in a hospital tank with vits. and copper, help with my fishes gill problem

I agree with seabry that you may need to reduce your time of the lights a bit. IMO, a coral beauty isn't that good of a fish to start with but that's just for me. How much stuffs you have in your tank like LR LS and fish or whatever. Sorry to say this but if it's not that much, you can always start again. I started again because I left town for a month and left the tank behind for my dad who never took care of it and now I love my little tank after starting all over.

Seabry: Do you have any sites that ships to Canada since I guess you are from Ontario.
