Fin Rot???

I think my Niger Trigger may have fin rot. His tail has slowly disintergrated over the last 6 weeks. It started about 3 days after I brought him home. His tail looked like it was scratched up. Because it has been a long slow process, I didn't think much about it as there wasn't much diffrence on a day to day basis. He is still a perfectly happy fish. Eats like a pig, no labored breathing, no scratching... If I can figure out how to do it, I will add a pic.

Hi:
since its been such a long slo process. I wouldguess thats its not a bacterial infection, but an aggressive tankmate.
Can you describe what the tail fin looks like. tattered?, ragged?, are the rays white or redish?, is any tissue at the caudal peduncle reddish, inflammed or lifting?
Is the fin tissue cloudy grey or clear, BUT TORN?
We need to know which way its heading, to make a treatment decision

Ok... his fins are not torn, they are more ragged I guess. And his tail fin seems to have a white "aura" around it. But I have not seen any lifted scales, red anywhere, or inflammed tissue. His tail does look wore today. His whole tail is almost gray. I truely don't think it's his tankmate. I think he's the most aggressive of the bunch. I do feed a variety of foods. Kreel, live rosies, brine shrimp, flakes, several diffrent seaweeds.....
But I think last night I found the most convincing reason to suspect fin rot... My foxface has light red streaks on his tail. But his fins all look great!!!
According to my LFS I can treat the whole tank???
PLEASE ADVISE ME!!! :)
