I finally got my 55g reef started (after having my tank empty in my living room for 3 months) with 75lbs. of cured LR and 100lbs. live sand 3-4" DSB. I'm running a euro-reef ES5-2 skimmer with a filter bag in a 15g sump, 2 maxijet 600s and a mag7 return. So far I'm not happy with the flow of the mj's I think I might go back to my LFS to get 1200's and my overflow is very loud I was wondering if anyone knew a trick how to quite it down a little. I would also like to know if anyone has any tips for my clean up crew or helpful criticism on my setup so far. Thanks in advance.

Since you used live cured live rock, your tank was pretty much instantly cycled the day you set it up. As far as the maxijets. Go with 900's. They use almost 1/3 the power of 1200's and only push 60 gph less I think. My 1200 produce some good heat and have been trying to trade them for 900's for awhile. As far as the overslow you would need to give more info. Lots of people love the durso mod to quiete down overflows. I really like the cleanup crews from this site. Start with a small one and 1 or 2 small non aggressive fish. Lots of people knock damsely but there are a few pretty ones that will get along pretty well with other fish, and you can catch them easy if you take a clear piece of acrylic and when they come to the corner to eat then slide the acrylic down into the tank and trap the fish in the corner and scoop them out with your net. Put the tang in last. Feed garlic and selcon, and try smaller biweekly water changes vise large monthly water changes. Add no additives but calcium and buffer and get test kits for calcium and ph. Probably more info then you wanted but oh well. Good luck
