hey everyone,
Well I finnaly did it. I set up my 24 jbj nano cube a few days ago and here is the run down on whats in there so far.
10 lbs. LR
15 lbs. Base Rock
30 lbs. aragonite
The live rock and base rock was pulled out of a tank that broke at the LFS I go to so after a few days I started seeing alot of life in my tank. There are some little green feather duster things, 5 I'm guessing, that like to pop out of the base rock I got...which makes me think maybe the BR was actually LR. I'll have to borrow my gf's digital camera and post a pic cause I'd really like to know what it is. I tried to find the hitch hiker thread on here but I couldn't find it. I've also seen a tiny little red worm flapping around in the water sort of riding the current, and a little bug that was kind of transparent, very small mind you, he looked like a shrimp with a lot of legs. He crawled around the rock really fast then litteraly jumped off road the current a bit then swam back toward a rock, crawled around jumped again and then dissapeared. Any idea what these things might be based on the discription I gave? I will try and post pics ASAP cause I know how hard it is to pull something out of thin air.
Also I've read several places not to cycle my tank with damsels, I asked the LFS guy about using a cocktail shrimp and he was litteraly baffled by my suggestion. I was wondering if since the LR I got was from an established tank would maybe lower the cycling time on the tank?
To all the fish guru's out there that will hopefully read and respond to this I bow to you!

The red worm sounds like a fire worm. They are harmless, unless you touch them! they rarely come out and clean crap out of the tank. Just don't over feed once your tank is setup, they multiply like rabbits. The little transparent guy sounds like a pod which is a good thing. Your LFS baffled, say it isn't so!! Since you are using LR from an established tank it may shorten your cycle, but don't rush it. Just monitor your levels, you should get a small spike even with using that LR.
Good luck, I can't wait to see pics.

Thanks jacksdad, I ordered a skimmer from you on the milimod thread :) .
It's funny you should say that about touching him cause when I saw him flapping around I thought "man i should prolly just reach in and get him out squish him and save myself the trouble." lol i'm glad I didn't do that. :scared:
Also is pod an abreviation or is there a more technical name i could get so i can look him up? I should have pics up soon hopefully he will want to swim around some more and ill get a snap shot of him.
Does anyone else use aragonite? I was going to get live sand but i decided against it because of price restrictions. Now i'm thinking maybe i should have gotten 15lbs live sand and thrown it in then 15 lbs of aragonite on top of that , mainly so i would have the pretty white sand looking stuff on top but oh well i guess.
