I am having trouble trying to figure out what size tank would make an excellent upgrade on a reef tank. I currently have a 75 gallon tank and would like to move the 75 reef into the new tank after if has cycled. I might be tearing down my 55 and use if for a filter on the new tank. What size tank will a 55 gallon tank hold as a filter?
Thanks Ron

I would go with the biggest you can. A 55g would make a nice size sump/fuge for a 125 or even bigger.

Another vote for a 180. Or if you can afford it, even bigger. :D
But seriously consider your budget and remember all the costs of a bigger tank and then go with what your budget alllows.
Remember the bigger the tank the bigger the skimmer, lighting, pumps, amount of LSLR, topoff water, supplements, salt, electricity, bigger clean up crew and time doing maintenance.

Here's a couple things to think about..
Are you going to need new lights?
new pumps?
New skimmer?
If not, can you tell us a little about the stuff you have. If your going to buy all new stuff then the skys the limit.

The only thing I will be reusing will be the 55 gallon tank, everything else will have to be new. I will probably change the 75 gallon into a fish only tank. One nice thing is that I work for a fish store, so I can get great discounts and even cost on some stuff.
