Got my 240 in the wall. Took me a while to talk someone into moving the tank into the wall. Steve also known as " Bigred " talked his 2 brother in laws into moving it for me. I couldn't beleive that for the most part just 2 guys moved the tank in. I'll finish the plumbing, stand, and filtration this weekend. I'll have the cycle going sometime next week.

It's going to be a FOWLR. So far I'm thinking a couple of tangs, an angel fish, maroon clown, wrasse, and a couple of gobies.

sweet tank. I have a very similiar setup. Good luck with the cleaning on the fron side. It sucks getting to it. I am going to invest in a mask and snorkel, seriously.

Cleaning the front should be to difficult. I plan on using a magnet cleaner. A freind of mine with a 300 in the wall uses a really strong magnet cleaner, and just goes over the glass every day.

I have the beefest magfloat they make and I clean twice a day. When the grn hard algae starts to show up you will realize what I am talking about. I am trying to come up with a clever method of dealing with problem. It is very difficult to place frags and corals in the front while feeling around with your fingers. My best current method is to kill all the pumps and have my girlfriend scream from the front room telling me my position. If there is a better way please share.............

I use a magnavore magnet on my other 240, and have not had a problem with the green hard algae on my other 240. I only go over the glass about ounce a day, and sometime every other day. I don't have a high amount of light, as I'm not keeping any corals, and I'm sure this helps to keep the algae growth down. My buddy has a 300 reef tank in the wall, and uses the same magnet ounce a day, and hasn't had any problems keeping the glass clean. I know what you mean about placing frags though. I've helped my buddy a couple of times, and we usually have to scream back and forth as he's placing them. His tank is a tight fit, and he doens't have much room to work with at the top of the tank. I just made sure that on my tank I have plenty of room to work over the top, and that I could easily access the front side of the tank as well.
One thing that I'd add as far as cleaning the front glass is maybe a scraper with a long handle. I was looking at one at the LFS, and it does a really good job at scraping the glass, and has about a 3' handle.

Are you sure your stand is strong enough to hold all the weight that that tank will be putting on it? JMO it looks kind of weak.

I have the 3 ft scrapper with a 1ft back up. I guess its my lights because I am fighting a losing battle with hard grn algae. I will post a thread asking for other ideas or solutions.

slick,
The stand is plenty strong. Acually if you look at the maui stand that came with the tank, my design is definatly stronger.
LeBoeuf,
My LFS has a new scraper with a metal blade, that they said wroks really well. Maybe give that one a try.

i got after it this weekend with a metal scrapper. Stil tough to get though. If I could see it it would make it easier. I need to convert a magfloat to hold a razorblade insert on it.

Nice. Good luck on your new aquarium. I, too, have a similar setup --- 500 gallon in-wall. Mine is 10 ft long. I use a strong magnet to clean the front, but it doesn't always get the edges since the finishing gets in the way. I bought a telescoping scraper from one of the local home furnishing stores here and I give it a good scraping once a week from the back of the aquarium. It works pretty good.
Keep us posted.
