Finger Leather and what looks to be a brain

I've got a finger leather attached to very small piece of LR and also on that LR it looks like there is an open brain growing and it's almost touching the leather. My question is there is probably less than a centimeters space between them could I break that LR rock to try to seperate them?

Yes. Take a flat head screw driver or chisel and break it in two
