Finger leather

Bought my first leather coral a few days ago along with a green hammer. Placed both in tank and both "bloomed" quickly thereafter. However the next day the leather was curled up again. I felt I placed it too close to the hammer so moved it. Bloomed again but next day back to old curled form. Thought may be too close to hairy mushrooms [which by the way are going crazy in my tank - too too many now] So replaced and still hasn't bloomed. Only thought is that I do have a Flame Angle and was swimming a little suspeciously around. Any thought or is it too soon to panic.

They can be picky. They normally like to have a bit of current , but not to strong, (just enough to clean them off). Mine will open one day, and after I clean the tank be fussy for two days...sometimes! Keep an eye open and if he doesn't open after 4 days, move him over. (Watch to make sure no one is picking on him too)

I had a Coral Beauty that picked on my finger leather, watch your Flame. Otherwise, my finger leather does great almost anywhere. Mine is sensative to salinity and nitrates. It usually takes him 4 days to come out fully after a move or when my tank parameters slip. Wish you good luck.

I wouldn't worry just yet. I had a cleaner wrase that nipped my leathers until I found him a new home. Leathers also go through a period about once a month were the slime over (you can't see it) close up and then after a day or so they shed the slime and reopen. That is why alittle bit of current helps them.
Hope this helps
