Fire Ball Sponge

If by "spiny urchin" you're referring to a Diadema sp.(AKA longspine urchin), I've never seen one bother a sponge. Diademas are about the most "reliable" vegetarian urchins out there. They do get large tho.

I think it is the Diadema species, it has long black spines with an eye, and matches the photos pretty well. My concern comes because it seems to eat the white sponge growths that develop in my live rock, so I wondered if it would eat my new fireball sponge, which has a much different texture to it.

I went ahead and broke off a piece and fed it to the urchin. He ate some of it, then slowly discarded the rest, so hopefully that means he didn't like it.

i was thinking of getting a red ball sponge.if you could keep up a post for the next few weeks and let me know what you learn about them.like tank placement (more or less light and more flow/less flow) i would love to have some more color in my tank.
