Fire Fish

I currently have a fire fish in my reef tank and have heard that these fish perfer to be in groups of their own kind. Due to tank size I am limited on fish load I want to get another fire fish but while at the store I noticed that they had a purple fire fish. My questions are the following can you mix these two species? In other words I would like to add another one to my tank so that the first fish has a pal but at the sametime would like to add diversity has anyone on this board mixed both these fish in a tank?

never did i mix the 2 kinds, and u shouldnt have probs doing so becuz firefish r not aggresive at all, in my experience, i have 1, only 1, and he used to be out and swiming a lot, then recently started to hide like alot which i think is becuz he doues not hav another firefish. so u should get another before urs become a hermit. i dont know if a purple firefish is the same as a regular firefish, and if it isnt, then urs will probly not think of it as a 'buddy' or watever, so u mite have to get another regular. if u wanted diversity u shouldnt have got a grouping fish.

I have both in my 125 reef. They use to live in the same cave until a royal gramma chased out the fire fish. The Purple fire fish is not scared of anyone. They hang out in the front of the tank.
