Firefish fighting

I had one and he started to hide from my yellow tang,so I got him a partner to hang with hopping it would bring out. Well it worked and thay where best buds, even sleep next to each other. Then after about 3 months the first one I had has chased the other off to the corner of the tank.
Why and how too fix it or if I can?

Get one out and take it back. It's a misconception that firefish will do well in pairs. It's best to keep one per tank

My firefish will not come out from hiding. I have only had him for 2 days. I was going to go and buy another one today so maybe he would come out. I was going to buy the same fish that he was sharing a tank with at the dealer.
Every where I read says two are ok. Any other thoughts on this.

They CAN do well in pairs....What you see at the store may not always end more. They can become territorial as they grow. I have seen it before. It's a risk, you have to be willing to re-home one of them. Firefish are often shy at first, especially if there are large more agressive fish in the tank.

Oceanside, Thnks for the info. My tank is not very aggressive but any new fish is always free game to a little hazing. Since This morning the new Firefish has come out and is doing well.
Thanks Again!!!
