Firefish - no cover?

Well have a 55 and would like to add a pair of firefish. But I have read conflicting reports - stating that they will jump out of the littlest holes, while others say they will only jump when scared, and others say they never had a problem at all with an open tank. I have a light fixture with legs that blocks about 30-40% of the top plus 3 hang on filters an a skimmer which blocks another 10%. There isnt that much room to jump out but Im sure its possible. I dont want egg crates so thats not an option. Anybody have any experinces - good or bad. Eventually want to have 2 clowns, 1 OR 2 firefish, and a dwarf angel.

I don't have them...I was going to get them, my LFS said that they just don't jump for no apparent reason, they jumped when their spooked, but they get spooked easy. My opinion is they would be fine but I would wait from an opinion from people who do have them

we have had 2 for a few years. Only once did Spike jump.....we had a agrressive
clownfish that was mean to everyone. Fortunately, Spike lived through his ordeal and probably went back into the tank and told Alfalfa NOT to do that
The clown went to our neighbors tank and we got a little false perc who is a sweet as can be. Spike and Alfalfa live happily together in a cave :happyfish
They do sppok easily, but what I have seen of ours, they retreat to their cave first.
Very quick little devils IMO. Lightening fast.

i had 3 firefish one time. two of them jumped out of a hole about the size of a quarter. The other one was eaten by a purple spiny lobster. My tank is covered except for that little hole, if they jump out of that think how easy it would be for them to get out a non covered tank.

I have about a 2 inch gap on the back of my tank for my hang on filters and stuff. My fire fish managed to jump out through that small opening. I don't know for sure, but I think he might have been bullied by my Clarki Clown.
