I had just added a firefish to my tank. He seems fine. Was just wondering, I read something that said they should be kept in pairs??? Should I get another? Does anyone just have ONE in their tank, how is it working out

I got my two little fire fish together. I have always hear that you are to buy them in pairs if they are mates in the same tank when you go to buy. My two little fire fish are like best little buddies. They swin around together, stay in the cave together, and come out for feeding together. I truly believe they needed each other for their own happiness.

can you get a purple firefish with a regular firefish? there were two in the tank when I bought, I got one, the other is probably gone now. So wondering if he would buddy up with a purple firefish

when I got my purple firefish, I had the same questions. I was told that it is only a good idea to keep two if you know for sure they are a mated pair. I don't know if that is right, but I just kept the one. I also think it is better if you add two at the same time, and could run into problems if one is already in the tank and then you add another. I don't know if this is correct, because so many places give varying opinions. Anyways mine is a loner, and he is just great, never hides, swims the whole tank, I think I got lucky because many people say they hide all the time, but mine is fearless!!

Firefish like to be in pairs but will survive alone if comfortable. I have had many pairs and once in a while one would die and the other would go on alone. I once tried 3 at once and 2 killed one and then they were a pair. I always look for 2 that are together in a tank and acting like they like each other. You can --- them but it is hard to do so. I have never seen a purple with a regular one in the stores they are always in different tanks. They do need a bolthole tho (a place to hide) in order to be the most comfortable in a tank.
