firefish

I picked up 2 firefish yesterday from ***** and they seem to be doing fine but they haven't selected bolt holes yet. for anyone who doesn't know what a bolt hole is... these fish like to hover in the water column and eat little particles that float by, the bolt hole is thier little cave they BOLT into when scared. i have several spaces for them to choose from but they don't want any of them and they don't seem to be the least bit afraid of the new envioroment. they are the only fish in the tank besides a hi-fin red-banded goby, pistol shrimp and various inverts, but is this normal i've heard from everywhere they are timid and reclusive. Mine are not is it because i have a firefish goby and a purple firefish and they paired up because they were in the same tank at *****? or is there something wrong that i haven't considered. i'll try to post some pix later.

not all firefish are shy. i would be glad if i were you because now you get to see them all the time instead of them just hiding.

well my purple firefish died last night of causes unknown. well it has something to do with the fact that an arrow crab, purple reef lobster, and big hemit crabs all are fat and need lots of food. damn it the purple firefish was realy expensive too and i don't know where i can get another in my area. (NJ) But it looks like it was attacked by something his head was missing could it be the work of a mantis shrimp?

the red firefish might have killed it. most of the time it doesnt work to mix red and purples. id also be suspicious of the lobster

well it seemed the purple and red firefish paired up like they would swim next to each other all day, when he came in he was a little strange he wouldn't come out untill like 1 in the afternoon and then stay out untill 9 at night and then go back to hiding. now the red firefish seems to be looking for a friend, he's hovering at the opening to the pistol shrimp and hi-fin's cave. the lobster is picky about his food like he would only eat krill and then i got him to eat silversides but it looked like something took the firefish's head off like cut it off! oh well win sum loose sum. i was thinking of getting another red firefish anyone have an opinion on if that's a good idea.

mantis kill everything
lobster could have
stress from other fish is a poss.
but i wouldn't buy fish from ***** to start off with... they have a very very low success rate and also harbor many sick fish in the same tanks as healthy fish.
also if you don't have a cover for your tank now you may want to invest in something ... they are jumpers

i got a cover and i know about *****.... but it's my only option right now and had a hi-fin goby and my clean up crew my scavenger crew. it was to hard to feed just them with frozen foods and freeze dried foods because of their locations(bottum and opposite sides of the tank). But i know the guy at ***** he's a friend of mine and he knows about salt water fish and fish in general. he held the entire firefish tank for me, he made sure nobady bought anything from the tank untill i came in to pick up my fish. i have recently gotten over an amonia spike in my tank, from live rock that was supossed to be cured and wasn't and cuz i listened to a person who i thought knew what he was doing i lost everything except for my inverts. the fish stayed in the tank for about a week untill my tank returned to normal. as for the jumping part the firefish do it mostly to escape predators in the wild, if they can't reach their bolt hole in captivity they do it cuz they get bored little devils. but yeah i have a cover and my local lfs i don't trust any more cuz of what they did to my tank and cuz i'm an idiot plus my lfs doesn't get firefish in often they get dart fish like scissor tail and tile fish. not things i can put in my tank.
