Firefish ---???

Do Firefish change --- or how can you tell if one is a male and one is a female?
I bought 2 today, and I chose the two that were together, not sure if it made a difference, but they had 3 and the third was on the other side while the 2 I got were together on the other side.
So I am VERY curious about their "---" if they change like a Clown or a female is bigger or smaller etc...

i think its a size thing, not appearence
