first fragging

I just fragged my first coral, an umbrella mushroom, and I have a few questions...I cut the thing into roughly fourths in a bowl outside my tank. Should I put it right back in the tank or allow it to heal a bit? It has little pieces floating around--will these too become a seperate coral and shoud they be put back in the tank? How long will it take to look like it is living again? Right now it just looks like its been butchered. Any advice would be great and thank you for your time.

Is it still on the same rock, just split? If so, the sooner you it back in the tank the better. The pieces floating can generate a new mushroom and can do it where you might not want one...
If you have seperate pieces, unattached to a rock you need to create a device (nylons, toothpicks, pvc, another rock) to hold the piece against the rock where you want it to attach. Then get it back in the tank ASAP.
It should perk up in a few days.
