I got to work for my dad during summers in High School starting in the 9th grade bailing huge piles of card board. Each summer I would move on to a different aspect of the facility and ended up operating a press--it was very hot, very dusty, hard work and was a good motivator to get my degree. My other 2 brothers worked for him, was good for all of us.
And of course, grats on the job and I wish you loads of success!

babysitting/dogwatching/catsitting at 12 and then I worked at Wendy's when I turned 16 for minimum wage all the way thru college working my way up to a whopping $7.65/hr because they capped the position. Talk about motivation to graduate college!! Enjoy the job tho, sales can be a LOT of fun and there's no better feeling than closing on that "big one"!!

My first job was babysitting a kid just a few years younger than me, he was a monster child but I just let him do whatever he wanted pretty much because I only got $2 to watch him. My first real job was lifeguarding then a video store clerk which I started both at 16 and worked the two for three years until getting my post office job.
Good luck on the new job though, it'll only seem tough for six months or so and then you'll be able to handle anything I'm sure, it's just hard learning new systems and getting into the swing of things. You'll do great!

I agree, their is nothing like closing your first big sale! I still remember my first customers name, company and what I sold them!

My first job was a lifeguard.
It lasted one summer. I got fired by my half-wit boss.
He made fun of me for being 16 years old and not knowing my own schedule (I told him I would have to call my mom to see if my calendar was open for the week).
I, in turn made fun of him for still living with his parents. He was 37 years old.
Oh yeah, he got fired a week after I did

There is nothing better then a good firing!
My first job out of college was for a small Japanese Co. that sold very high end injection molding equipment. I was basically in charge of new sales for North America and I can say I was in a little over my head but still performed. What got me is when I'd travel with the President and the engineers on long sales calls they'd speak Japanese the whole trip, we are talking breakfast, lunch, dinner and on the road. To top this off, our sales meetings were in Japanese with an occasional apology to and one day (bout a year later) I had it. I got up out of my seat and said when you are ready to include me in your conversation let me know, till then I am going out back to have a smoke. They let me go that afternoon due to my disrespect and poor attitude…thankfully, I had a new gig 2 weeks later.

Don't feel to bad, not going to say what I spent on my wife's ring and she complains that she wants a bigger diamond because a couple of her girlfriends have monster rocks. First time she said that to me I was rather upset.

ugh i worked 2.50 an hour 14 hour days for my dad over the summer a few years ago but once his employee's went on strike (lol) we got 4 bucks and 10-14 hour days... now im up to 6 and 10-14. Im happy though because its under the table so its better than minimum lol. back in the day i used to just clean up around the shop and scrub 12,000 tiles one by one. he thought he was going to buy the place and thats what "kept us motivated" but the guy who owned and still owns it is a (edit for language) so that fell through.
so now my dad made his own facility doing defense contracting so now i do less clean up and more prep and fab for the military. right now we are working on a prototype robot but its kinda slowed since school started. better than a paper route lol
congrats on the new job, put some big stones in that ring

this is funny... starting at 18 and thinking she's behind the game with computers. i work with people who are over 50...try teaching them how to use a computer.

I was a babysitter for 2 years. They payed me $10 an hour, but they moved away when I turned 16.
My first real job was at Macy's for $8 and hour. I actually had a lot of fun! We spent more time prank calling other departments than actually working haha I kind of wish I still worked there with the other girls. ugh! I work at Comerica bank now and it's so slow and boring because nobody around here has ever heard about it!
