first NANO, where to start?

Ok. Im starting my 5ga tank tommorrow untill my birthday, Then im getting a nano cube 12ga or 24ga. how much sand will i need? how much live rock? When can I add the live rock? How many hermit crabs can I have, and can i have any shrimp..?

I'd wait until your birthday when you can get your permanent tank up--if I understand your original post. Why go through the cycle on your 5, and then have to go through the cycle on the 12 as well? But if you want, I'd suggest a couple of inches of live sand--as for the salt, you'll have to top off evaporated water with FRESH water to maintain SG/SAL levels.....and with any small salt water tank you'll want to do weekly water changes to protect the integrity of your water quality.
