gfk,
Is ANYTHING in this hobby?

I actually researched for a few months before I bought anything because I only want to do it once. Its 250 hqi de 13K mh with 2 140W actinic VHO's. It was a mother's day/birthday/anniversary gift from my husband. Only time I'm allowing him to combine gifts! :D

yeah, and he was more sympathetic now that he's getting his boat out for the summer. That ain't cheap either! Let's see, $50 for gas = $50 for coral, $50 for beer = $50 for coral...get the picture :D

Only $50 for beer? Must be gettin the cheap stuff. We can't seem to get the beer under $100 for a nice weekend. Of course no boating for us. Just a styrofoam cooler and a couple Wally World rafts.

only says UltraLights on the side. I got it from the auction site. Email me at cputman1@twcny.rr.com and I'll email you the link. Great service. I had them switch out the mogul bases for hqi de bulbs no problem. Ordered Tuesday and received them the following Wed.

I hear ya on the overlooking deal. My hubby just got us all scuba certified (himself, me, daughter & son-in-law), PLUS all of us are equipped for scuba. Not a cheap adventure either...but we did it, it took 5 years, but we did it. And frankly I turned my head many a time on cost of things. Now it's my turn, and it's really fun that everybody in my family is taking a great interest in this...very fun... :cheer:
Have fun!!

My husband is pretty good BUT the first thing he said when the mh's turned on was "Wow, can you hear the electricity meter just a wizzing.... I ignored him.
We don't scuba but my father-in-law does. We snorkel. My husband, son (12 1/2) and daughter (11). We just spent a week in Aruba and snorkeled at Baby Beach. Best snorkeling we ever did. There were hundreds of fish. It was really great.
here's the boat

That's what I'm told. They are metallic yellow polyps. I add CoralVital to my tank every week which makes the coraline grow. I also have two brownish polyps that I don't know where they came from. Had my LR for about 4 months and all of a sudden they were there. I'm told they'll spread quickly now with the new lights. I tried to get a picture but couldn't.
