Well, I have a very small purple spot on the side of my tank! I'm 90% sure it's coraline algea but I don't want to touch it just in case I make it fall off :). I'm pretty geeked. The tank has been up for a month and a half now. I need to get my cable for my camcorder so I can transfer the pictures I've been taking to the computer.

Congrats
It is kind of cool to see it start growing on the glass. After another few months though you will find that it isn't so cool when you have to really scrape the glass at least twice a months to get the stuff off. It is also kind of a cool background. At least that is what I have to say since it is a royal pain to get at in my tank.
All said though I would rather have it than not.

Corraline makes a great, colorful background, but if you wish for your tank to be viewable from the sides as well, you may consider removing it from the sides as soon as you see it pop up, as it can be very difficult to remove. Glad to hear that it's growing well!

OK now I am confused. I thought that corraline algae ws the hard purple stuff that grows on your lr. What it sounds like you are describing is the soft reddish/pruplish algae that grows on glass. So which one is coraline algae? Be kind...I'm new.

Herbie, coraline is indeed the hard stuff that grows on the rock. It can also grow on glass and it is hard there too. When I said I didn't want to touch it so it wouldn't fall off, I was saying that as a small joke like "I didn't want to drive my new car and get it dirty" type joke.
