right now i have a pretty empty 75g FWOLR.
i plan on upgrading to reef possibly a 90g reef.
with this in mind, i have been buying reef safe stuff.
i have :
1 longnose hawkfish
1 coral beauty
1 yellow wrasse.
thats it, fishwise.
plus some crabs / shrimps / harmits / snails / feather dusters.
i will soon be adding a pair of GS maroons.
what are some other suggestions for a peacefull reef tank?
i am looking for a nice array of colors.
i was probably going to get a royal gramma to replace the one i used to have.
or possibly a neon dottyback instead?
i also liked the fire fish but they are a type of goby, and they say you shouldnt keep more then 1, (except in there case , which i would get maybe 3.) would they work with a gramma, or no ?
i was also considering a spade cardinal i think they are called?
insert 2 cents here

I think if you want an array of colors, firefish are definately a plus. Dottybacks will eat inverts (i learned this the very hard way...), and royal grammas can be kinda hostile. You could try a yellow watchman goby (if you decide not to go with the firefish). I also have an engineer goby, which isn't that colorful, but they're really interesting, and will definately add a spark to your tank.
You could go with some sort of jawfish (they're really neato), or perhaps a cardinal. i really like cardinals, and they're pretty hardy as well (although i read somewhere that there's a disease spreading through cardinals right now...) A midas blenny would be a gread addition, as well as any other blenny (the midas is brightly colored...).

yea i was going to add a lawnmower shortly as well i guess i forgot to mention. i attempted to add a pearly jawfish once, but he straight up dissapeared in my quarantine tank after 3 days. there was basically no explanation - buuut thats a whole other thread. but arent jawfish types of gobies? will there be a problem with the firefish and or the gramma?

there are some gobies that get along, and others that fight. The jawfish is a type of goby, but they're not aggressive. There would be a problem with the firefish, but you can house jawfish with other types of gobies. The engineer goby, aka convict blennie is actually neither a blenny or goby, but it's its own thing. The royal gramma is actually a basslet, and is aggressive towards members of it's own species, so should be housed only 1 per tank. However, i have heard many times that royal grammas can get real territorial and bully other fish if they get too close to it's territory.

sooo you are saying:
gramma + firefish(es) = ok
pearly(s) + firefish(es) = bad
gramma + pearly(s) = ok
?
PS also i was going to finally add a blue tang to the mix. i had a yellow tang for a little bit, but he ate all my damn inverts, the aggreessive jerk, so i brought em back.

hi, I just read your message about the tang eating your inverts. I have a 75gal with 4 differnt tangs, yellow, sailfin, kole, naso. hippo, along with assortment of others. My tank is filled with inverts and none of the tangs have touched them. Tangs do require a large amount of seaweed a day. I feed mine 3 times a day. Were you feeding the yellow?

yea i was feeding often. possibly even over feeding the tank at that time. no sea weed though. i have found that yellow tangs can be known to munch on the shrimp. just to clarify, he didnt kill them directly, he just gave them all 'haircuts' buy systematically eating all of there antanea
