First of all welcome to the board. What type of fish did you use? I hope you were begining the cycle of your tank when you put the fish in there. You can't put in just any ole fish to cycle your tank.

A 55 is a good size tank for a marine setup..There could be quite a few reasons why they died. But to make a better answer,we will need alot more info about your setup...What filter are you using?? What are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate,Ph,and water salinity,or specific gravity, and temp readings??What kind of fish did you put in this tank??

Did your damsels have anything on them when you found them dead? Like white spots, or blotches, etc. sw fish get disease much easier in smaller tanks like 10 gallons than bigger tanks like 55 gallons.

We really need MORE DETAILED answers than that. Exactly what kind of filter>>> What EXAV+CTLY are the water readings????? And YES,A 10 gallon is probably too small...You would be better off setting up the 55. The water conditions in a 10 gallon tank can turn from good to toxic in a matter of hours..Especially during a cycle...

Salty is right you need to give your readings, if everything was fine they would not have died.
