Hey guys,
I have a small reef tank that I'm starting.
I have a snow flake eel, arrow crab, anemone,
sea urchin, choclate starfish, coral beauty and about 10 turbo snails. I actually had two coral beautys and then all of the sudden one disappeared. Any ideas who might be guilty of killing my other beauty?
Thanks.

My first guess would be the anemone or eel of consumming it whether either killed him or not. It is also possible you have an inhabitant you don't know about like a mantis. You mioght want to check a couple hours after lights out.

Oh My.
Lets see. Of the critters in your tank, most of them are carniverous predators. In order of likliness...
  • Snowflake Eel
  • Chocolate chip starfish
    Anemone
    Arrow crab
I dought the crab could have pulled down the fish. How big was it? If the eel id well fed, it was probably the starfish. If the starfish is a smaller one, then the anemone. Watch for the anemone to expel the undigested remains, or "turn inside out".
Sorry about your loss.

How big is the snowflake? beacause my best guese is either the snow flack or...THE MANTIS SHRIMP... I highly recomend buying a mantis shrip trap emeditly, I have a 300 gallon reef and i had 3 morish idiols who were the hardiest fish i have ever had. I was at the pet store one day and i purchased 20 lbs of live rock, when i got home i washed them all of and then put them into the reef. all was well that day but the next morning when i came down to turn on the lights i realised that all three of my wonderful morish idiols were gone. I suspected Mantis Srimp so i put in the trap and and after a copuple of hours i had caut 4 big ugly mantis's. I was soo mad at them because the killed my morishes i put all of the damn shrimp in the blender and them puored them down my sink :) So that was my horror storie, now i highly recomend buting a trap before you loose more fish

Ryan,
(Slightly off-topic) My chocolate chip ate some snails of mine....as KappaDoku mentioned it is also carnivorous. I took mine back to the LFS and will get a blue linkia next time which is reef-safe. Just a suggestion....sorry about your fish bro.

ive always read that 2 dwarf angels will not get along. is there any chance that 1 coral beauty killed the other, then his parts were eaten by everyone? that would be my guess, just from what ive read about dwarf angels and their incompatibility with one another.
