ok I have a long tentacle anemone, its been in my tank for about 2 months and just recently my Ocellaris Clownfish has hosted with it. both seem to be really happy for the past week. been feeding the anemone three times a week. the tank itself has been up and running for 7 years 300 gal square tank. but today I have noticed that my blue wrasse has been nipping at the anemone all day. and has at times ripped off some chunks. the anemone has shrunk on and off all day. did I make a mistake by putting in an anemone with a blue wrasse. and should I remove the anemone to one of my smaller tanks. none of my other fish even come close to the anemone other than the clown and wrasse which is eating it. as far as I can tell the anemone is healthy still roaming around looking for that sweet spot. will this wrasse end up killing the anemone?
Hi,
It sounds like you have a problem with the wrasse. I had a Blue Hippo tang that ate corals...the fish store fellow didn't believe me and thought there must have been algae on the coral, and I misjudged the fish...it was reef safe as reef safe a fish can get. Regardless I talked him into swapping me for another fish. A few weeks later I returned to the store for something, and the fellow told me "sure enough the dang fish ate coral". maybe the tang was eating algae and got a taste of coral...and it was food ever since.
Sometimes a fish just does it's own thing, and it doesn't matter what the norm is. I know wrasses eat worms, and it's possible you fish wasn't very bright, and tasted the anemones long tentacle, and found it tasted yummy, and now considers it food. So in answer to your question...it will continue, and nibble it to nubs.
