Fish junk food.

I have read and heard a lot about flake and brine shrimp being considerd junk for swf & is best skipped if you really are looking to feed your fish a health diet. Is this true? 1 post I read said they use salmon eggs which is better instead of brine! How does that rank?

Plain adult brine adds little nutrition -- if I feed brine I get the spiraluna (sp?) brine shrimp and I use mysis as well. Flake on rare occasion along with pellet. I also feed Seaweed sheets. I have yet to try salmon eggs though.

Thanks for the quick reply! have you seen the prices for salmon eggs (caviar) is the real term. I think not

I feed brine with omega 3 but not every day.
My hubby would have a fit if I feed the fish salmon eggs, with that price tag

LOL Yeah, I'm the one who feeds my fish salmon eggs, with over 33 fish in my tank, I want to keep them healthy. I also feed them home made fish food soaked in fish oil. :) I just love my fish. :)

what in the world made you try caviar??
What do you think fish eat in the wild? lol They don't eat fillets and only brine and grocery bought shrimp.
I just thought I'd try something new AND caviar has a hell of a lot of nutrition and is extremely good for fish. I want my fish to be fat, happy, and healthy. :p

I buy 2 lb at a time, $60 for 2 lb. I put it in the freezer and freeze it. I don't feed it daily tho.

its not really that expensive up here.(salmon roe that is) I feed flake in the morning and one of the following at night- a mix of the saltwater multi pack or angel food (4 to 6 cubes), frozen krill or silversides, every now and then some clams/squid/octo/oyster mix. And algae sheets every now and then.
I am going to switch to pellets and add the fish oil though soon when im out of flake.

Wow 4-6 cubes? I thought 2 cubes & 1/4th algae sheet per feeding would be enough. What is your fish load might I ask?

I feed my tank 3-4 times a day with home made fishfood. Each feeding gets about 4 grams of homemade fish food which is 12-16 grams per day plus the fish have access to seaweed/algae 24/7. (Yeah, I weigh the fish food each time I feed. lol) I have 33 fish and lots of inverts/corals.... soo.... yeah lol That's about 1 lb of fish food per month. LOL!
