My lights did not turn on today like they should have. not sure why, so when i got home it was increadably dark. my diamond goby was found on the floor next to teh tank. this makes 3 fish total that have jumped out in the last 6 months. what can i do to keep them from jumping out. i currently have 260w power compact lighting and am building a canopy with 2 400w metal halide lights. any ideas?

The lighting grate stuff that people call "egg crate" is like a plastic grid, you buy it in a big sheet and cut it with nippers to fit the top of your tank. Set it in the lip around the inside edge of your tank. You can get it at home depot and places of that ilk.

bl117, Its usually harder for fish to jump out if there's a lid on your tank. Another solution to your problem which I like is to add more aquariums to your system which allows fish to jump from one tank to another

Sounds like finding nemo when they helped nemo escape. Maybe your fish are just trying to escape and missing their target.

I am not much of a fan of egg crates or glass tops, I like to get the most out of my lights ( though with 2 400 watters you should have plenty extra). Just get that hood done, that should do nicely.
