Careful of the powder blue tang, they are notorious for getting ick. I think what he means by balancing out the shapes is that you don't want too many fish with the same shapes (i.e.) oval, sphere, ???. fish that have the same color and/or shape tend to fight a lot, but in a 125, they have ample room to roam. :happyfish :happyfish

ok i changed my mind about a couple things, so heres a more up dated fish list:
purple tang
5-7 green chromis
2 clarkii clowns
engineer goby
flame angle
2 purple fire fish
and a couple more small fish , and mabey a majestic angle, does this sound better?

Sorry I was not clear about the shape post. Yes sometimes they will pick on each other if they are too similar, but visually it is very attractive to have different shapes (long, round, oval, long nose, different fin shapes) In a 125 there is a lot of swimming room for the smaller to med sized fish so I would look more towards fish that like to swim from end of tank to end of tank. The Fire fish are real cute but I think they would get lost in a tank that big. You might want to consider three to five 5" to 8" fish, your green chromis and small angle. They would be more fun to watch and you could see them across the room. :happyfish :happyfish

the purple tang is considered the most aggresive tang, and also an ich magnet. I would get either a yellow tang or sailfin. or even a hippo tang.

Tangs "most of the time do OK with each other if you add at the same time and they are young/smallish when you add them. Since it sounds like you really like tangs, consider doing a species tank. Some tangs will do well if you add 3 or more of the same species.
Consider adding 3 banner fish with a flowing fin they school and look really good with tangs. A nice school of green chromis, adds green color to the tank. :happyfish
Numbers of fish to the gal, can be a tricky thing. You can stock two ways first stock the tank based on what size the fish will be or stock based on the current size. I run home made systems on my tanks, so I have 75 gal of water in the filter setup to 125 gal of tank. If you have this, the tank is stable enough to "pack" the fish a bit more closely. If you have 5 gal's water in your filter system the fish numbers are lower. Also I will stock a tank with juveniles, knowing that in a couple of years, some of the fish will need to be moved as they grow, not because they are to large for the tank, but but because they are to large in the numbers of fish inch to the gal. But only do this if you are planing to add more tanks. :happyfish
If I wanted to "pack" the tank and it sounds like that is where you are leaning, this is what I would do.
Set up the system around a large under tank, a big plastic tub from wall mart or 75 gal tank with a wet dry drip and protein skimmer at each end. The center where the return water comes from I make into a refugium. Set this up and cycle for a few weeks, with stuff and critters in your refugum.Add your clean up crue cycle another few weeks, Add your 7 green chromis, cycle another few weeks, add the 3 banner fish cycle another few weeks, when the tank is 6 mo old and totally stable (this is very important because by adding groups of fish, you strain the system.)Add the Tangs 3 to 7 I would include a yellow because they show off the other colors in the tank. Some tangs grow fairly large. be prepared to move some fish latter.( in a couple of years).

well heres what im thinking epupment wise- skimmer, no wet/dry( i have heard they hold nitrates, and if i have enough LR id dont need one) a 40-55 gallon sump, tops im only going to have 2 tangs, beacuse i want smaller fish... what is your oppinoin on the wet/dry? i may only do 1 tang (leaning tword sailfin, or any other suggestions beside a hippo, mabey a powder blue??) so i dont have to deal with a lot of delicate fish...

if i would hae to stock that tank i would get
Naso(blonde or regular)
yellow or sailfin (probaly yellow due to the naso and sailfin both being neutral colors)
2 true percs
3green chromis
Flame angel (or the potters angel on SWF looks nice)
And mabye 3-5 of those Carpenter Flasher wrasses from another fish site
mabye a sand sifting giby as well

Stocking Tank? If it has cycled have fun and always be ready to make adjustments. I started my cycling with 3 yellow tail damsels for 60 days before I added a yellow tang. Most importantly have fun collecting and don't be afraid to make mistakes. That how we all learn!
P.S. Don't buy 3-stripe damsels they look neat in a tank but are awful for stress.
