hi my 125G tank is now set up and i want to get a
spot finned lion
1 or 2 porcupine puffers
maybe a tang or 2
and a panther grouper.
Now i've checked on *********** at the compatibility chart and talked with my LFS and they all said that'd work.. any advice? i am not going to put them all in at the same time of course. but i would also want to know which one would be the first for a new aquarist and how long between put ins etc...
should i get them all as babies so they can grow together or does that not make a difference...
thanx

I would definately only purchase one of each, especially the puffer. Sometimes youll get lucky and find a pair of tangs that will only fight SOME of the time, but usually its a lost cause in my experience. Also, I like to buy juvenilles. The larger fish sometimes have more trouble getting along with others. The young seem to be more tolerant in groups, especially when all being added to the tank at the same time.

so what u r saying is that i can get 1 tang but 2 or more would be a lost cause... will it be ok with my other selections? (lion, puffer)

A single tang by itself should be fine in a 125, depending on the species of tang. Some good choices would be yellow, or purple tang.

First let me say Hi to you and welcome to the board. One thing to mention before I get to your question, it is not allowed to list names of other on-line vendors which is a direct competitor of the host.
I would suggest only one tang and one puffer. Tangs will fight amongst themselves unless you get lucky and they ignore each other. Puffer gets Large and two would be pushing it. As for the panther grouper, they will eat anything that fits in their mouth and they grow huge, like 27" or more. That's over two feet! My suggestion: 1 tang, 1 puffer, a med-lg size angel would be nice and the lion you wanted. HTH:)
