Hi, i have a 55 gallon tank with 50 #s live rock and 60#s live sand. I know it is border line small but was wondering if i could get a sailfin tang and a blue hippo. I also want a flame angel and a 6 line wrasse. Also 2 or 3 Percula clowns. Later on a manderin goby after my tank is more established. I heard they need a very large copod population. I do have alot right now. I can see them all the time on the glass and sand.. I know that the Tangs are the biggest concern for my tank but really want them! If i could get them, what order should i add these fish in?

IMO if you want the mandarin you will need to build up your live rock to about 75 pounds, and probably add a refugium to keep them breeding where it cant get after them, my friend has a 90 with sump and his goby was doing great for months now he says its loosing weight. I have been Siphoning pods out of my sump to help feed it. and he has about 100 lbs of LR.

bump...i could live without the goby but i really want the tangs. Has anybody had tangs is a 55 before? And they did ok? The ones at my lfs are tiny like 1.5-2 inches. Anyone think they would be ok. I could always sell them back when they get to big and then get more small ones i guess.

I'm sure people have tangs in 55's. Some of them have probably survived for a while. However Tangs are open water swimmers and need more space than a 55 allows. It sounds like you already made up your mind. Let me just say that when your battling ick, and losing fish and your display tank is sitting empty while your fish are in quarentine for weeks on end. I warned you.

Not to flame but to help put it in perspective (I also have a 55, NO tangs) the tank should be 3 times a 55 to support that fish list as adult fish.
You can purchase them as juvies and keep them for a while. Then when you are attatched to them (and you will get attatched
), replace them with smaller ones? It just doesn't make sense to think that way.
