chromis, some damsels, some types of cardinals such as the orange line, squirrel fish, file fish, and lionfish can all go with others of their own kind. thats just about all that i can think of at the moment.

I would Probably say that you saw Blue/Green Chromis.
If they were a pink or orange it could have been Anthias but you would need a big tank for those.

same as he said. another cool fish that swims in schools is the coral catfish. looks really cool when you have like 7 because it looks like a black cloud in your tank. there real good sand shifters since they use their wiskers scavanging your subtrate. my lfs sells them 3.50 a piece

Those catfish are cool! Do you have to keep them in groups?

I'm thinking you probably saw chromis also.

Anthias school as well. At your LFS they put a lot of the same fish in one tank so they might appear to school also.

No, best in groups over 3.
Coral Cats are fun to buy because they get stuck in the net and the LFS guy doesn't know they sting. Then when he gets nailed by one you say " they sting?! I don't want them anymore". Not that I would actually do that

You can keep them singly but their behavior is unprecictable. Not like they might snap like a trigger, but I couldn't tell you how any particular one might act.
One of my friends had 9 of them and they looked like a tumbleweed.

thats so funny. yeah i got stung by them but i dont think its actually life threatning. but it feels real annoying because its like a itching under your skin that u cant scratch!! ur welcome eric.
dont buy just one though, they survive much better in numbers and if u have just one they look real boring in your tank...imo

In the wild they can get 1', I've never seen one over 6". Personally I'd never have a catfish. They dont seem to digest stuff very well. Their systems are designed to handle dead fish so they can even pass bone, so everything just kinda blows right through them. My friend had them in with sloppy eating predators so they were in that case a benefit.
