For fish that need swimming room, like tangs, would their having to swim upstream into the current of a powerhead simulate a larger tank? Any observations on this?

I have a Kole Tang that spend much of his day playing in the current it is actually very funny to watch - he is in a 110 gallon tank with plenty of room to swim but he likes to do laps around the tank and on every other lap he swims against the current then makes a dramatic dive down and does his laps again. He has been doing this since the first day he was added to the tank and is very healthy but I wont advise on putting tangs in a smaller tank hoping that the current is enough excersize for them
