Fish with live rock, switch to reef?

hey guys, researching what I want. Since I am new to this, I want to start off with some fish and some live rock. If it all works out, I would like to get some coral and start a reef. Would I have to change alot of stuff? I have read that you need the MH lights for sure. Thanks
Also the wife loves the corner tank, the 54 corner bowfront, any of you guys have one? They also have a 90, wondering if I should splurge for a bigger one.

My T5's are great. I would never want to deal with the MH issues. Just make sure to get the best lights possible, I would suggest Tek since I have really good experience with them.

i would splurge on the 90 if possible. i started out with a 55 last summer and just upgraded to a 90. if i had it to do over again i would have started out with the 90 or larger. it was a pain switching everything over to the new tank.
having more water volume will also allow more room for error.

You would have to make sure, when buying your initial fish that you buy ones that are reef safe for when you get the corals. You will also have to buy more testers. You will have to get Calcium, KH, alkalinity(..and maybe magnesium..but this isnt too pertinant) tests. But I agree 100%. Go as big as possible. First. Its worth the struggle to just start with the best and not cut corners, that goes for anything marine-related.

I started with semi aggressive and am now wanting to try the coral game. I have some fish that will eat shrimp and crabs plus one that might eat some corals. now I am limited on what I can keep if I want to keep my fish. think hard before making any choices about what you want to do even if you think there might be a slim chance it might happen later take that into account.

basically just lighting and maybe supplements would be needed, depending on the salt you use.
id go as big as you can now. eventually you'll go bigger anyway so save yourself the time now.
