what does it mean if your fish is changing colors? I have a clown fish and this is during the cycling period. The damsel is doing great but not so for the clown. So what does it mean that the clown is changing color? I aslo would like to know if the brown alagea will turn brown. This may be asking alot but hpw long will it take the nitrates to go down there off the charts right now. Thank you if you can help Goober444@aol.com

The washed out color could be from ammonia poisoning if he was in the cycle. Other signs may be bulging eyes, black spots, rapid breathing, apethetic behavior, and area of the skin may appear reddish underneath.

Ammonia or nitrites stay in a fish's blood even after the tank water is free from both. What about the eyes, are they normal or bulged out? Could be the nitrates causing the redness. Too high to even measure?
