im going to be setting up a 14 gallon biocube in a few months after we move. so hows this sound for fish?
-royal gramma
-1 true or false perc (which is better?)
-a coral beauty or pygmy angel (which is better?)
-then could anyone recommend a goby?
thanks

IMO, I think 4 fish in your 14g is going to cause some nitrate problems. I did maintain the Royal, Clown and Coral Beauty in a 29g and they lived in harmony but I don't know how they would do in tank half the size.
I'm sure someone else will chime in and help you out more.

four fish could cause some problems with the trates as said before. I would do the pygmy angle. I have had mine for about and two years, and is really easy to keep and is the hardest fish I have had so far and they stay relatively small. For a goby I would suggest a clown goby or a small shrimp goby. I don't know which one is better, sorry?Hope that helps

hmm thanks for the input.. although i've seen 14g bc's with 5 fish
I'm not saying it won't work for you. As you learn very quickly in this hobby what works for some may not work for you and vise versa. I just wanted you to be aware that you could have nitrate issues and would need to stay on top of water changes.

Hello, I can only give you my experience with some of these fish.
First off, yesterday I had the opportunity to see a Royal Gramma fully grown, my lord they do get big. Another thing to keep in mind is that these fish have some territorial issues and guard their areas very well.
The family of Dottyback, Psuedochromis, Basslets are all semi-aggressive fish and some more than others. I would not put a Royal Gramma in a 14 gal with a bunch of other fish, maybe just one other that could hold its own, along with some inverts.
Clowns, they are very cute and funny a pair in a 14 gal with maybe a small goby would work well.
Angels, don't put any of the ones you mentioned into a 14 gal. I had a Coral Beauty in my 30 gal and it was not a happy camper, they love to have lots of swimming room and my 30 gal was not big enough, they truly need a much bigger tank in my opinion.
Gobies, I have not had any success or luck with the tiny little Clown Gobies. But a nice and quite hardy one is the Yellow Watchman Goby, had one of these guys and they are fun to watch and brightly colored yellow with faint blue dotts on the gills. The Goby family is huge and I have not had very many of them as they are not all available to me where I live.
The choice of course is yours and we all push the boundaries of aquarium keeping myself included but in the end one tries to find a balance.
Good luck and let us know what you decide to put in your tank.

Same advice given for the gramma extends to the sixline. They can be nasty fish, and since they're not territorial like the clowns, they'll just harass anything. I would not recommend one in a 14g.
Percula clowns will probably outgrow a 14g, but Ocellaris would be okay. Percs get a bit bigger than ocels.
I would stick with three fish in a 14g. Let it run a few months, and see how you do. Otherwise, the bioload may be too much.
