trolling, casting, or fly?
in that range, there really is not much worth getting. but something could possibly be had if you look around.
in any case, what i am trying to say, for saltwater in that range, 50-100 you are gonna get pretty much the same quality gear no matter teh manufacturer.
i personally dont buy gear that i spend less than 100 on each piece, even my bass gear which you can get something pret nice for 60 bucks

Get the best you can afford. Check out the online sources of info & ask questions at your local tackle shops. Small shops will be your best source of info vs. large chains.
My gear is all across the board, most being G. Loomis rods and Shimano reels but my favorite trout rod is a $10 Shakespear I bought just starting out 30 years ago.
A Penn 209 is a decent off shore reel if you're trolling. It really depends on what you're going after. I have probably close to 20 reels that I use on a regular basis, maybe a dozen or so rods.
Good luck!

I just checked your location. Bradenton has everything from Bass to serious off shore stuff. There are some relatively inexpensive charters that run out of the Sarasota/Bradenton area. You can take one and check out their gear. You will need to identify what you want to go after & proceed from there, you have a lot of choices.

It looks like a nice all around setup. If you want to cast the Penn 112 won't work but for jigging, trolling or drift fishing it is a very good reel.

What are you going to use THIS fishing pole for? Marlin or sunfish?
The same pole will not work for both.
If you are fishing for bass...then one kind of combo will work for several species, but if you are going offshore to fish for snapper on an oil rig...leave the light weight stuff at home.

ok.. since your a beginner you will want a spinning reel bc i dont think that you will not be able to throw a bait caster and im thinking that you are goin to be fishing the flats you will want something like a shimona stratic up too 20lb test.

This is a no brainer...
Start with one spinning outfit that suits you.
Go to any sports store near you and look for a spinning rod about 7-8 ft with as many eyes you can find. There are litterly hundreds of brands so find one that has either graphite composite or a good lite glass rod, ask someone to help you find both. Cost should be from 25-100
The reel is the heart of your setup, a good one is hard to beat, go with good names, Shimano, Penn, Abu-Garcia etc. Check out the reels at the store and see what you like. If the prices are not to your liking, and they will be pricey. Then go to a catalogue, Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas etc. and find the one you like there and order it, this way you wont be disappointed when you get your new reel and you'll know what to expect.
Then go fishing and have fun.
If you decide to go on a party boat for big fish then I suggest you rent the rod/reel from them. If you really like it, and find yourself out more often, then go find yourself another setup like the one you used.
Again this will be to your taste.
Rod will be around 50-100 many to choose from.
Reel will be a little more, Penn 4.0 is good all around reel along with the Penn 320 I.
I am going fishing tomarrow on the Pacific for king salmon, and
bbqing it tomarrow nite

The worse day of fishing is better than any kind of work,
unless your into fish tanks then its just another obsession!
Good luck jmrents

I have that same reel on one of my spinning outfits and it's reel
smooth and a breeze to cast.
