I just ordered a Fission Nano-Skimmer with a 12 gallon Aquapod. I dont know much about these skimmers but it seemed to be my only option as a hidden, drop in skimmer. Does anyone have any Pros or Cons on this skimmer?

pro, its small and fits in a nanocube, son current usa had problems on the first production run with the elbows, so they may arrive cracked. If thats the case, call the folks you bought it from and complain, or drop current-usa an email. I contacted current-usa and they promptly shipped me out 4 replacement elbows free of charge.

On the nano cube forum it seems to be the majority of the folks are more than happy with the skimmer, some had cracked elbows, as mentioned above but Current has replaced any cracked elbows with just a phone call, some have had problems getting them to fit inside the sump area on their NAno and Aqua pods, which is hard to understand why, so I have to think that problem is user induced, since others managed to put them in place without any problems.....My LFS received about a dozen of them and in less than a week they were all gone....

Itb seems the biggest problem (not counting getting one with cracked elbows etc ) is folks do not want to give them time to break in and find the sweet spot for optimal operation. Most seem to think allyou have to do is open box, stick parts together, drop in tank and plug it in and its done.Others think that 5 minutes of fiddling with adjustments are more than enough to warrant it being classed sa junk....It takes time for breakin and a bit of fooling aorund with in the majority of cases to find the proper setup for the installation and hitting that sweet spot....Other than that what I have seen of them is they are a pretty fair decent skimmer, and no they are not what I myself would call noisey..

I have had mine for about a week and 2 things I noticed:
1. The first few days it produces a lot of skimmate - but it is just basically water. After the first few days it seems to be working better.
2. Water level, water level, water level. I have noticed that moving it up or down in the sater column has a lit to do with how well it works. Too low in the water column and it just fills the cup up with water (from the water bubbles bursting and splashing into the cup). too high in the water column and it does not produce enough foam. This also means that you will need to monitor the water level in the tank more often. You may need to top off every day or every other day instead of once a week. (at least I do)

PhoenixFla, Do you have a Aquapod? Im wondering if the Aquapod has that much evaporation. Sence its a closed system tank.

Which Aquapod chamber is the best to install the skimmer in? I have seen some posts on this topic but nothing final.

Yes, I have an AquaPod (a recalled one in fact) I must add about a quart of water a week. I usually add about a cup a day.

Charliewww,
I recently purchased an Aquapod 12 and have not set it up yet, but I did previously try an Eclipse 3 and 6 gallon FW. They are now downstairs in a box. I never did any modifications to the lighting but I think you will find the lighting on the Aquapods to be much better and much more powerful and I think that lends to the frequency of top-offs.
