I have one I tested a bit with skimmer gunk in a bucket of water. To me it seems like the aproxamate most effective hight, when adjusted, is about a 1/4" below the

on the collection cup. Be aware you will most likely have to change the pads more often than it suggests and might have to double them up. OH an effective replacement, when you get to the point you need it, those filter pads used for ponds. I experimented with them a bit. Cut small squares a little smaller than the pads inside (they stretch a little) cut the corners off thus making a rough octagon, and snip a hole in the middle and put 2 up inside and smear around till they fit.
