flame angel and hypo

What is it with flame angels and hypo? I am on my 2nd one. As soon as I start lowering the salinity to do hypo they die. Literally within hours of lowering the salinity the flame angels are in the corner of the tank laying on it's side. BY this morning it was dead. This is the 2nd time this has happened. He was in qt for 5 days when I saw him flashing. I tool a closer look and saw a white spot on his tail and one of his fins so I started hypo since I heard they are sensitive to copper. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have not lost any fish to hypo.Just curious of the time frame and to what point you lowered it.It said to be done in 48 hours,but i have alway took at least 72.PH may have went up causing an ammonia spike also.

Dido on Noah's Nemo comment ammonia may will go up due to change in environment the bacteria takes a hit, need to test, also you need to check the PH it tends to go down, you need to buffer if that happens.

I lowered from 1.020 to 1.016. Tank params were fine. I have done hypo several times and the only fish I have had react this way are flame angels and royal grammas. After raising the salinity back up my RG was fine but the original flame angel died before I could raise the salinity. Maybe I should only lower it by .002 or .003 a day. That's the only thing I can think of.

Maybe lower the salinity more gradually. This can be done by doing more frequent water change outs, but smaller amts. Don't forget to track pH very closely.

you should do an acid dip to all your fish that will cure all problems j/k at least your not ashley, ask about her harlequin tuskfish . . . i think copper is the worst idea ever, even though they say its the best, i may have found a product that does the trick but i don't want to say what it is because i don't know exactly how good it is, BUT i used it on my swissguard bass he seems fine, you know how dear to my heart they are lol call me if you want to hear about "Product X"
