I have a beautiful flame angel that has in the past week taken a liking to my button poloyps. i llove this fish its very interesting to watch and hate hate hate to get rid of it, but i am prepared to if i have to. What can i do if anything to deter him from the buttons?? My buttons dont like to open anymore becasue he nips at the sides and pisses them off, he doesnt actuly damage them but they stay closed up alot now and arent getting enough light which i see going no where good real quick
PS i knew there was a chance this would happen and i took a gamble

Can you move you polyps to somewhere less accessable to the angle. Maybe the polyps will get used to the picking and open quicker. My flame picks at my colt and the colt used to close when that happend but now they dont close and I think its because they got used to the picking.

they have been everywhere in the tank, the flame didnt like going up top level so i put them there, now he jsut goes out of his way to nip them
and the buttons are gettin worse so id count out gettin used to it, their color is starting to fade fast due to no fake sun shine

Sorry to hear that, but theres nothing that you can really do. It sounds like the angel has set his mind on nipping on them and you cant really stop him. Keep him well fed and always have some algae sheet in there for him to eat and he might not nip as much....

i havent gotten rid of my flame yet and he seems to have moved on from his nipping stage with my zoos, im feeding my zoos more individualy now and more frequently so they are staying opened longer and once that happened my flame just kinda gave up on them.

Im glad to hear that you did not get rid of your flame and that it has slacked off on picking your corals. I just love my flame and I am sure you will love yours and will be very glad that you kept it. Good luck.

What's the best food for a flame angel? I haven't had much luck with them. I have the algae sheets but it wasn't interested. There was plenty of algae for it to pick at but I've lost two of them in the past month. Both lasted for about three days. The stomachs weren't caved in, all the other fish are fine...

im no expert but i know flames hate change, they dont aclimate well, mine got ich when i brought him home for about the first week, treated it immediatley, and hes been better ever since, now hes a monster and will eat anything he can get, mysid shrimp is the norm though. ive never bothered with algea sheets cause there plenty of lr for mine to graze on. how many flames do you have, casue i know they are pretty territorial are they fighting with each other?

Right now, none. I'll pick up another one at some point. I used pellets, flake, zooplankton and it only was interested in picking on algae....
