flame angel good for beginner?

I am a beginer and I got one as one of my first fish. It did very well in the display tank but I introduced a fish that had ick and the flame was the first to catch it and it died shortly after I started hypo. They are sensitive to any sudden changes in the aquarium once they have established themself but if you are totaly cycled and have your tank set up the way you like I say you can do it. Mine was healthy and happy in his home until the ich. Others may say different but I say you could. Just my 2 cents.
P.S. If you want other fish in your tank that are hartier you may want to put them in there first to make sure you got the fish care thing down before you try the flame angel. Just a thought.

I have one.... he loves swimming in and out of the LR. I also have a fish with what i think is ick, and as i dont have a HT/QT, i am hoping he will fight it off by him self, however i dont think he will, as it is a parisite... but only time will tell. Hes the only one with it.

Walmart sells 10gal for like $10. If your tank is set up like mine this may work for you also. I had 2 hang on filters in my tank. I didn't have a qt either but I bought a 10g. from Walmart and put one of the hang on filters from my tank into it and totaly skipped the cycle. I never had an ammonia spike or anything. I took the fish I introduced with ick out as soon as I noticed it but only after him being in there for 2 days he infected the tank. I would say if you can try a qt because even if you don't see the ich anymore that just meens it fell off and is reproducing to come back even worse.

First off, don't introduce any fish to a tank that has ich. You're just asking for a loss there.
Next, any angel should only be introduced to a mature tank with lots of LR. They are voracious grazers and need LR for that purpose.
With all that in mind, I'd say that my Flame Angel has been a joy to have in the tank. I got him after my tank was running for about 8 months, and both he and I couldn't be happier. He doesn't nip at my corals, doesn't pick on my 2 Clowns, and will readily eat just about anything I feed him. Great addition, IMO.

Who said this???? My fish got ich..... got it from becomming stressed..... the flame angel was chasing it...
Maybe I should clarify....
What I meant was if a fish has ich don't introduce that fish to your display tank. If your display tank has ich, don't introduce a healthy fish.

one month is definately too soon for the flame. wait a couple of months to do the flame. i don't know if it would be a frustrating choice. most people that have posted about their flame angels love them an haven't said any bad things about them. i personally think a flame angel is a great fish to have, but you need to have things a little more mature than 1 month.

I would group clowns, damsels, and some of the Goby variety as a good starting fish to a new cycled tank.

i agree that clowns and gobies are better for beginners. damsels are a bad choice IMO. a lot of people start with a damsel or two to see how things go, and then they end up going through hell trying to fish them out later. a chromis would be a better choice than a damsel IMO. of course maybe that is what you meant by damsels since they are closely related.
