i have been wondering about adding a flame angle to my take for a bit. all the research i have done has said they are good community fish. i have an established yellow tang in my 80 gal. tank. will these two be able to get along. also are there any special things that the flame angles need to survive?

The flame angel needs an established reef (I think an established reef is like 5 months old) and a lot of live rock.....also i think they are pretty finicky eaters so be prepared to feed it dif. types of food (they are omnivourous and eat algea, benthic inverts such as amphipods, and frozen and flake food). And the tang and the angel should get along i have had a coral bueaty(closely related with flame angel) that was in a very peaceful community and it didn't bother anybody...also it can cause problems with corals (nipping on the polyps) but i don't think very many do
good luck

I put a flame in with a yellow tang I had for 7 months and there was no problem. They hang together. The flame constantly picks at the LR and eats pretty much anything. The flame has been in there 2 months.

no live rock in my tank at the moment. will that make a huge difference in the angles survival rate. i do have several rock pieces in the tank. forget what kind of rock it's called. it's a tan color and is pretty soft. above all i want my fish to be healthy, if he really won't do well without live rock, i don't want to add him to the set up.

my tank has been set up for just over 6 months, and has plenty of algae growing on the rocks that are there. the tang likes to pick off them, but doesn't seem to be that much of a grazer, goes more after lettuce, flake foods, and freeze dried brine shrimp.
