It is a filter feeder, and requires floating micro-plankton to be kept alive in the aquarium, and will do best in a mature reef aquarium system. It also needs proper calcium levels and alkalinity. It does not tolerate nitrates
The flame scallop is non-photosynthetic and requires supplementation with phytoplankton, and organic foods (Marine Snow or Selcon) provided by using a small pipette/straw to dispense the food upstream of its location. Each Red Flame Scallop needs to be fed individually.
IMO not at all easy to keep

it doesn't matter about the light
because if there anything like mine, they stay out of sight. chances are u may not even see urs for a while. mine hid under a ledge in my LR. they are very tricky to keep alive. they need a lot of food in small portions. some say u can kill them by feeding too much in one sitting. I could only keep mine alive for 2 months and i went through 3 :/ but good luck with everything. they need a well established tank with lots of calcium

they like really reallly dirty water to live I had one live in a aggressive 100 gallon for almost 2 years before I broke the tank down and got rid of the aggressive fish I let him go with those fish. I got another for a reef tank and it didnt live more than 6 months so I feel as the dirtier the water the better they do.

They don't like the light and need a cave to shield them from the light otherwise the will try and bury themselve inside your rockwork somewhere most likely where you can't see it.

I would not even try one in a reef tank again. the water is just to CLEAN for them to get what they need to survive.

I have 2 that i've kept for about a year.
They are not easy to keep.
I hand feed them 3 times a week with a turkey baster, squeezing DT's phyto straight into their mouths.
They like to hide, so you don't actually get to see them very often. Although they do move around the tank.
I would not recommend getting them. But I bought them, so will do my best to keep them healthy.
