Flames Scallops

I bought two Red Flame Scallops last night. Does anyone here have any or have kept any? I would be interested in hearing the experience of others when it comes to feeding and how long they have lived for.

Try and feed phytoplankton directly on them a couple of times a week. They are cool to watch swimming around in the tank but, in my experience, they dont last too long. 2-6 mos at best here. Have a great day!

All mine does is hide too. I bought it expecting it to look pretty in my tank, but all it did was go behind the rocks. I have had it for about 2 months and so far it has lived. I don't feed mine, I heard there supposed to eat paricles in the water.

well, on eof mine has rooted to the backside of a rock, so rather than move him I just turned the rock around, ,and it is open and in plain view, the other one has rooted to a rock also in plain view so I'll have to see how they do, I think I'll feed them once every other day, I bought some invert food that came with a syringe so I'll see how that goes. Thanks fo rall the input all.
BTW does anyone have any exp with emerald crabs?

I bought 3 emerald crabs becuase I had a green algae problem. I was told they are reef safe. I few days after I put mine in, I caught them eating my hammer. I now have NO crabs in my tank, my experience has been that they are all nasty little critters, and I will never put another crab in my tank.

but on the other hand a few folks like myself have 20 blue leg hermits/20 scarlet hermits/3 emeralds and I've never had a problem of any nature with any of them........they are active and do a good job of munching what little algae they find and they keep detrius and wasted food cleaned up..........mine have never munched a coral except for 2 frohgspawns and an elegance that died....they were already deteriorating before the emeralds & hermits feasted........and that is one of the reasons I hired them....to scavenge before decay(prevents ammonia I believe)......*_^

My flame hides all the time too. Every morning it's in a different place, but never where it can be seen. I don't feed mine either.

Mine move almost everyday. I read that you shouldn't try to move them back to where you want them, because that will make them waste energy and starve even quicker than average. Mine are well fed and have lived for over a year.

how do you feed them if they hide all the time? i have 3 so usually i will be able to see at least one of those all the time..but usually never more than that. they do like to move around a lot. i haven't had one stay in the same place at all.....so how do i feed them?

Hmm, Well, mine are still in the same places as before, but I am finding it difficult to feed them the liquid food. Problem is. When the liquid stuf touches any of the tentacles, they clam slams shut squirtng the food away. Very frustrating.
