I know some of you use FE to put a few drops??? in a bag of new corals? Tizzo, I've seen you mention this. How many drops do you put in the shipping bag that you receive?

oh temp acclimate, put the corals in tank water, then add one -two drops.
it says on the directions how many drops / tank gallon, you can double that.

Hey Spidey!

Everybody is correct per the product claims.
Iodine based dips "claim" to remove/ kill flatworms, and I have yet to verify.
I do dip every coral in a flatworm exit dip. 2 drops FE to one gallon of water. Let it sit for 15 minutes. If I actually SEE flatworms, I dump the water and redip for another bout of 15 minutes using a turkey baster to blow the water in and out of every crevice.
If I do not, then I'm done.
Iodine is also a good dip, but it targets more your bacterial infections which are common in corals after shipping, handling, and fragging.
I have an iodine dip here that specifically claims it will remove and kill flatworms. But again, I've never verified. Maybe if I get a FE infested coral, I'll try it and see if it really works.

Get a 6 line wrasse too---they *love* flatworms!!
Plus they are a colorful, very cute little fish that is so nosy (well at least mine is
) that every nook and cranny of everyplace in the tank is scrutinized by my little guy!! This little fish doesnt miss a beat!

But keep in mind, the OP is asking about a dip as a preventative measure. Not sure they even mentioned FW's in the tank.

She is correct, as a preventative measure when I receive new corals.
Thank you my friend

May i ask specific names of these dips?? Or can I use betadine or Povidone iodine?
I think that dipping prior to putting in the tank is a good idea.
I just suggested the 6line as an added help.
I had flatworms on a couple pieces, I took them out and rinsed them in ro water--they washed right off, and then I promptly got a 6line to combat any that may have enetered the tank. I havent seen any--thank goodness!

There are many iodine dips, specific names include...
Lugol's and Pro coral Cuyre (by tropic marin).
As far as the flatworm dip spidey is talking about, that's literally, flatworm exit by Saliferts...

Here's my FWE recipe for dipping.....
  • Remove 3 - 4 cups of water from your QT/display tank. (enough to cover the coral. If you need more than 4 cups, double the recipe).
  • Add 4 drops of Flat Worm Exit (FWE).
  • Place the coral in the dip for 15 minutes, turn the coral upside down and shake vigourously for several minutes towards the end of the time frame.
Place the coral in some freshly removed SW from the QT/display and place the coral in the unmedicated water for 15 more minutes, again shaking towards the end.
Place the coral back in the tank in an area of high flow to disperse any mucous buildup.
If they are something like zoas I redip in 2 weeks....
FWE gets rid of many many things... something to remember when you wanna put it in your DT to kill just flatworms.
I've recently switched to using a Furan-2 dip that a local frag store uses. He liked it so I made the switch to see if I liked it.... has worked so far and defiately helped with a zoa eating snail I had... the wentletrap.
