I recently upgraded my light and filtration system on my 55 gallon fish only tank in hopes of transforming it into a reef. I bought more live rock and cleaning crew. But it seems to have become nothing but a nightmare. I read wonderful articles and confessions on the ecosystem using the "miracle" mud within in your wet/dry. I set it up accordingly. My lights went from ordinary fluorescents to 4 55watt PC two 10k and two actinic 03. Everything seemed to be going along just fine then algae flooded the system and covered EVERYTHING!! Weeks past and algae has seemed to be under control and my green rocks are becoming pink, red and purple again. Now it just seems every other day I find something new within the tank!
A few weeks back I found a huge bristle worm, I thought I had rid them from the tank. Then I had an outbreak of ick and lost two of my fish. Just last night I saw what appeared to be clear fleas? I also found four more bristle worms. What to do???
I thought maybe I would re vamp the system by putting all the live rock in a rubbermaid can and cleaning out the tank and ridding the tank of the substrate and starting over. The few fish can be stored in my other fish only tank.
not unless these fleas or good, which I doubt. I know the bristle worms are not.
Suggestions, comments, anything!!
thanks in advance!
