Hi,
I am new to the hobby, I have already set up my tank with the help of good advise from people of this website :) Now the only thing left are lights and I am actually doing some research. 2 days ago I went to a shop and it has flood lights (see below) it has one which is 500W and one which is 150W. Are these good for a reef tank?
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks.

Probably not. Wattage alone is not the only determining factor. You have to take into consideration the color temperature and or spectrum. Find out what those are for those lights and post for a better opinion.
They appear to be basic incandescent high wattage lights. Great for growing nuisance algae but not much else. I too searched for ways to "cheap out" on my lighting but in the end theres no real way to get around spending the money to get the proper lighting.

Halogen lights are not suitable for reefs... if they were metal halides they would work perfectly.
