Im planning on taking a trip to the keys to do some snorkeling and hopefully find some certain things for my tanks. I've read all the laws and regulations for collecting so I know what I can and cannot take. I was wandering If anyone had any recommendations on where to snorkel for fish and some inverts and such in the keys. Also, Is there a map that shows the refuges and protected places so I know where not to go? I live in Naples right now so It shouldn't be to bad of a trip. Thanks!

I have snorkled Looe Key a couple of times. Looe Key is a National Marine Sanctuary. On Big Pine Key there is a dive shop called Innerspace Dive Shop. They will take you out to the reef by boat. I highly recommend them. Bahia Honda State Park also has snorkeling tours for Looe Key. You can also do some snorkeling at John Pennekamp (State Park) on Key Largo. Of couse you can not take anything!!! I couldn't tell you where to go to collect anything... personally, I belive what's wild should stay wild... but have fun and good luck...

Awesome thanks, but im wandering what you keep in your saltwater tanks? I just like to go out and do things myself and maybe catch things myself. When you buy things from the LFS its the same thing except your having someone else go out and get the fish or coral for you. Unless everythings tank raised or bread.

I have snorkeled Key Largo( the first key in the line) in John Pennecamp national park it was amazing. It is supposed to have the best snorkling in the US, I'd beleive it too, I saw everything from boxfish to frech angelfish. I wish I could have caught something while I was there it would have been so easy because the fish were not scard of me at all.
