Flow for Refugium

Hello Everyone!
I just got a new refugium after much thought and reading many posts on here.....very good stuff.
My tank (90 gal) has been up for about 2.5 years and has had (up until tonight) a wet/dry sump.
My question revolves around how do I know what flow rate to utilize? I put a valve on my return from my pump (I am using the same pump that I had in my wet/dry)....I slowed the rate way down. The water is trickling over the overflow area of the refugim into my return (overflow is what Ia m calling it....my apologies if that is not the correct term).
How can I "eye-ball" this flow rate....any rules of thumb on setting the flow rate?
I did read a lot of posts on the subject but they seem to deal with turn over rates which is good......but I have no way of knowing what my turn over rate will be (I am guessing with this valve).
I can give you the pump model number in the morning (if needed). I cannot remember so I will have to call the LFS in the morning (they are closed now).
Thank you!!!

One item that I forgot to mention it that I have a chiller as well. I am assuming that I need to balance the flow rate with having a chiller......due to a possible freeze up if I dont have the water flowing fast enough through the chiller?
