the mod totally changes the flow pattern on the MJ. the old mj w/iplellar is more of a 'jet like flow and dont really disperse. the mod turns the flow into more of a 'wave/current' it is only really strong the first 6'' or 7'' then it get more disperse. i placed a small tube close to it to pull a vortex to see the bubble/stream pattern and about 12'' away it is about 11'' wide. this thing can move some water. my moded mj at 4'' under water can pull a vortex by itself. try a google vid search. think there is a vid on it.

Thangbom,
Did you make the mody yourself. I just got my maxi modded and I can not get the prop to turn in the right direction. I have not put the stop rod in, but I can not figure out how and what the stop rod does.

The stop rod will catch the prop if it is pulling water in and cause the pump to reverse. The prop should slide a bit on the shaft, when it is pushing water out, the prop will not hit the stop rod. When the prop is pulling water in, it will slide out and hit the stop rod. Just did a 1200 myself last night.

I finally got my maximod working. I did not have enough play on the clear tube that the prop is glued on. Now it works like a charm. I am allowing the attachment for my aquarium to dry and I wll put it in my tank tonight. It is going into my 29g. I will see if it is too much. But I have a 90g coming around christmas time, so I know it will work there.
By the way Honda East, I live in Toledo and have been to Honda East many times. I used to have a honda rebel. Now I have a torn apart 1978 750K. I live at Douglas and Lasky? You?

I tried my mod from MJMods in my 29. There was a lot of vibration noise, that i did not remember from my trial runs in my sink. Does yours have vibration noise? If so, what can I do. Also, I believe that it is too much flow in my 29. I wanted a little more flow since I have gotten some SPS frags. Buts since my tank is predominatly softies and LPS, I think I will ahve to wait until the 90g is up and running to use the maxmod.
Does anybody know if you can hook up multiple mods to a wavemaker/surge device?

it vibrates because it's out of balance or assembled to loose. when i made my mod, i made it a snug as possible so that i dint have to glue anything except the prop to the hard airline. all i have to do is twist and turn the pieces to find the 'sweet' spot and no more vibration. as for too much flow, cant you turn the maxi so that it face upwards?
